Mini Mavericks is often the first time that most children have played basketball. While some of the players have been introduced to basketball and the club through our extensive work in primary schools across the city, most will have never had the experience of getting involved in basketball before.
Philosophy
PARTICIPATION is the first of our three key pillars at this age group. PARTICIPATION is key at our Mini Mavericks sessions as our philosophy is that we want as many children getting involved in playing sports and being active as possible, aligning with our #Ball4all mantra.
The second pillar is ENJOYMENT. Once players are engaged and participating in Basketball it is important to make sure that their experience at the club is a positive one.
The third pillar is DEVELOPMENT. Once we have our players hooked on basketball, where they are participating and joining in the sessions, the next thing that we aim to do is make them better.
Finally, once players have have mastered the first three pillars we introduce another important part of basketball which is COMPETITION. This fourth and final pillar is often controversially discussed at this age group, however at Mersey Mavericks we find that by fostering an ethos where COMPETITION is used once the first three pillars have been established we can use the benefits that low stakes COMPETITION has to offer.
