Our Story
Mersey Mavericks Basketball Club was founded in July 2016, with our first players stepping onto the court on Sunday, 11th September 2016. Our founding members, shared a passion for bringing basketball to the South of Liverpool, creating a club where young people of all ages and abilities could play, develop, and enjoy the sport of basketball.
From the very beginning, our focus has been on providing QUALITY basketball opportunities, ensuring that every player, regardless of experience, has access to structured coaching, a supportive environment, and a pathway to success.
Growing the Mavericks Community
In our first year, we concentrated on building our Mavericks community, starting with the launch of our now well-known Mini Mavericks Programme. What began as a small group of just three players quickly grew into a thriving programme, with over 100 players attending weekly sessions. Since then, our club has continued to expand, offering:
🏀 Community basketball sessions for boys and girls of all ages
📈 Skill development opportunities for players of all abilities
🏆 National League teams for those looking to compete at the highest level
Our Mission
At Mersey Mavericks, we are committed to increasing participation in basketball and creating an inclusive, fun, and competitive environment for young players. Guided by our four core pillars--Participation, Enjoyment, Development, and Competition—we continue to grow and provide more opportunities for players to get involved in the game.
We are proud of what we’ve achieved so far and excited for what the future holds. Whether you're looking to start your basketball journey or take your skills to the next level, there’s a place for you at Mersey Mavericks!
